10 Tips for Social Networking in Business

I’ve been trying to use social networking website (spcifically Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn) to promote my two businesses, Redline Digital Services and Network Midlands.

Yesterday I attended the “Web 2.0 – Making sense of the social web and its use in business” breakfast briefing, run by East Midlands Business Link. This briefing suggested some ways that businesses might use social networking sites to develop their own networks. I haven’t time to summarise it right now, but I would like to share “10 Tips for Social Networking in Business” that were given to us

  1. Today’s customer wants to express him/herself but without you dictating how
  2. Use social media and social networking as a way to listen to clients
  3. Treat relationships with clients as long-term conversations
  4. Bring clients into your inner circle
  5. Find incentives to encourage participation
  6. Learn to view your clients in a different light
  7. When things go wrong, don’t try to cover up
  8. Participate intelligently in the online social community
  9. What do your clients or brand enthusiasts care most about?
  10. Leverage your people as online community leaders
